How Winslow Windows & Doors Came to Coral Gables

When our leadership team first scouted Coral Gables as the home for our next branch, we spent three weeks just driving the streets. Not looking at commercial real estate. Looking at houses. Mediterranean Revival homes with original steel casement windows rusting at the hinges. 1920s bungalows where the wood sashes had been painted shut for decades. Waterfront properties where salt air had eaten through aluminum frames in under ten years. We saw beautiful architecture fighting a losing battle against materials that were never designed for South Florida’s humidity and hurricane season.

What struck us most was how many homeowners had simply accepted the decline. They’d had bad experiences with contractors who measured wrong, ordered cheap glass, disappeared after the deposit, or left gaps that let in rain during the first summer storm. One homeowner in the Granada neighborhood told us she’d had three different companies out to quote a simple window replacement and received three wildly different numbers, none of which included the full scope of work. She’d given up and lived with drafty, fogged glass for two more years. That conversation stuck with us. This market didn’t need another window company. It needed one that treated a window or door as part of a home’s whole envelope, not a fast sale. We opened this branch to be that company.

Ed Winslow’s Personal Connection to the Windows & Doors Trade

Ed Winslow grew up around the trade, but not in the way people expect. His first real exposure came from watching a crew replace the jalousie windows on his family’s porch when he was a teenager. The old glass louvers came out one by one, and behind them he saw something he’d never noticed: the framing had been silently rotting for years because water had been getting in through badly sealed openings. The crew leader let him watch, explained what had gone wrong, and then showed him how a properly flashed and sealed rough opening should look. Ed still remembers the smell of the old caulk being scraped away, the weight of a solid new frame in his hands, and the difference in how the room felt when the job was done. That was the day he understood that windows and doors are not accessories. They are the point where a house succeeds or fails.

In the years since, he’s worked every part of the trade: measuring and ordering, installation, retrofits, high-end impact systems, and the uncomfortable follow-up calls where something didn’t go right and had to be made right. What keeps him in this work after more than a decade is the moment when a homeowner walks into a room after an install and just stands there, noticing the light. Or the first time a door closes with a solid, quiet thud instead of a rattle. Those moments are why he stays in the field, why he still reviews the scope on large orders personally, and why he’d rather lose a sale than sell a window that isn’t right for the opening. If he weren’t doing this, he’d probably be restoring old houses, one room at a time, spending too much time on the trim.

Meet Ed Winslow - The Person Behind Every Job

Ed Winslow is the Owner and Founder of this Coral Gables branch of Winslow Windows & Doors. His background is hands-on, built across every phase of window and door work from field measurement to final trim. He has spent his career focused on the technical details that separate a long-lasting installation from one that fails after two hurricane seasons: proper flashing, correct shim placement, the right sealant for coastal air, and the patience to fix an out-of-square opening instead of forcing a square window into it.

Before opening this branch, he established a reputation for being the person who would answer the phone after the job was finished. That, more than any title, is what he wants this company to be known for in Coral Gables. He is a father, a lifelong Miami-Dade resident, and the kind of person who keeps a folding ruler in the truck out of habit because some measurements deserve to be checked twice. Every job that carries the Winslow name in this market carries his personal attention, and he stands behind the work the way he’d want someone to stand behind work done on his own home.

Our Promise to Coral Gables Homeowners

We give you a written, line-item quote before any work begins, and we don’t change the number once the job starts unless you change the scope. If a project requires a permit, we pull it and make sure the inspection passes before we consider the job finished. We source our windows and doors from manufacturers we trust, including CGI, ES Windows, and ECO Window Systems, because quality failures in coastal climates are not something we’re willing to gamble with.

When a problem comes up mid-project, we tell you about it that day, with options and real numbers. We’d rather have a hard conversation early than a quiet frustration later. And when a job is done, we don’t vanish. Our workmanship is backed by a warranty, and the same team that installed your windows is the one you call if something isn’t right.

Our Credentials

  • State-Licensed: Every professional working under the Winslow Windows & Doors name in Coral Gables is required to hold the license their state mandates for this trade.
  • Insured & Bonded: We maintain coverage that protects your home and our team from the moment work begins until the final walkthrough.
  • Local Experience: Our leadership has been working in this trade for more than a decade, much of it focused on the demands of South Florida’s climate and building codes.
  • Strong Local Reputation: Homeowners across Coral Gables, Pinecrest, and Kendall continue to refer us to their neighbors, which remains the best indicator of work done right.

Why these matter: When you let someone into your home to cut openings in exterior walls or pull out old doors, you are trusting them with the structural integrity of the house. Licensing means they’re accountable to a standard. Insurance means you’re protected if something goes wrong. And a local reputation means the person doing the work has to face you at the grocery store afterward. We take all three seriously.

Rooted in Coral Gables

We work throughout Coral Gables and the surrounding communities: Little Gables, Miami, Miami Beach, Doral, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, Kendall, Olympia Heights, Cutler Bay, Three Lakes, and Miami Springs. You see our trucks along LeJeune Road, near the Biltmore, through the tree-lined streets off Coral Way, and on the causeways. This is where we work, where we shop, and where our kids go to school. That changes how we approach every job. The homeowner across the street is going to ask you how it went. We build accordingly.
